In August 2026 Sicily published the operational rules for a scheme that pays new residents back 50–60% of their Italian income tax for three years. The coverage that followed was mostly wrong in the same two ways: it called the scheme a tax cut, and it implied that freelancers and digital nomads would benefit. Neither is true.

ExpatSicily exists to be the version that reads the actual documents — Regional Law 1/2026, Assessorial Decree 30/2026 and D.D.G. 1017/2026 — and says plainly what they mean, including the parts that are inconvenient. If another regime is better for your situation, the guides and the calculator will tell you so.

• Not tax advice. The estimates here are for orientation. The refund application requires a sworn statement from a licensed accountant, and your own situation needs a professional who knows it.
• Not an affiliate funnel dressed as journalism. If a page ever recommends a paid service, it will say why and disclose the relationship.

Corrections

The rules will change — the application portal isn’t even live yet, and Italy’s competing regimes move every budget season. If you spot something out of date or wrong, tell us and we’ll fix it and date the correction.
